Words of Encouragement

Nan again so soon!  Sorry but I will make this one short and sweet :)  I made a set of three cards using the "Doodle Words" from Lost Coast Designs.  Just the words of encouragement and some washi tape, Distress Ink, twine, brads, and some paper from Dragons Lair Designs April kit for the contrast.

Use a Coaster!

Hi, it's Nan again with a time old adage.  What all moms used to say "Use a Coaster!".  So with some cork coaster blanks and some fabulous stamps from Lost Coast Designs, I was off to the task at hand!  I love the new released "ATC Hands" including the "Pictograph Hand" and having four coasters and three hands...hmmmm?  The awesome Dictionary Words set with "Mystery, Hope, Eternity, and Goddess" was perfect for all those markings on the hands were a mystery to me :)

To finish the set I made a holder out of a leftover cardboard (of course!) roll from some packing and wrapped with some freebie paper from Somerset Studios magazine with "MYSTERY" from the Misc. Words set stamped on the front.

Now I am all set for no watermarks on the table!  Come join us at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity for all the news and info on events and chances to win some money to spend at the stores!  All of our linkys are below and I hope to see you there!

Too Soon for Swimsuit Girl?

Hi There!!  It's me Shari with you here at the Lost Coaster's Review Blog today-Thanks for joining me!

I've got a quirky set of cards to share with you that I made using Lost Coast Designs' images-Swimsuit Girl and one of our newer images called Doodle Circles.

These cards were so fun to put together and quick, too.  So quick, that I didn't even take any photos while I was busy crafting away making them--Sorry about that!  But, I can show you each finished card close up and tell you what I did :)

There's a total of 4 cards and I made them all the same, except for the colors of the backgrounds.  I started each background panel with stamping our Doodle Circles with white pigment ink onto mixed-media paper.  I covered with white embossing powder and heat set.

To create the ombre background, I used my set of Simply Art water colors and a #10 round water color paint brush.  Starting at one end of the panel, I concentrated color heavily and heat set.  Then, using just water, I gently brushed the color down the rest of the panel to create the ombre effect.

I splattered each panel with a heavy concentration of the same water color paint I used to create the backgrounds with.  I heat set, then ran through my sewing machine to add the stitched elements, and finished each panel with a spritz of Shimmer Mist.

Swimsuit Girl was stamped onto mixed-media paper 4 times with Jet Black Archival and fussy cut.  The quote sits really closely to Swimsuit Girl on the stamp, so for the quote word bands, I masked off Swimsuit Girl, inked up the quote and stamped 4 times, and fussy cut.

All of the fussy cut Swimsuit Girls and the word bands were mounted onto the finished Doodle Circles background panels with matte Decou-Page and then mounted onto their color-coordinated card bases.  I added a shadow around everything with Pumice Stone DI and my water brush then outlined again with white gel pen.

Swimsuit Girl could be on her way to a beach party--A perfect fit for Team Dream's Let's Party Challenge!  There's one more day left at The Portal to enter your party themed stamped creation, so come on over and join the celebration!

Thanks again for joining me today!  I hope you enjoyed your visit as much as I enjoyed making and sharing these cards with you!!  See you next time!!

More Friends for March!

Hi all!  It's Nan with some more friends to share with you!  They say opposites attract so what about an "Old Cracked Crow" and an "Old Yak"?  Yeah or Nay?  Yeah, of course!  Both wise and both single and ready to mingle!

The background is modeling paste tinted with lime and sea blue and spread with a palette knife and some fingers!  A Dylusions stencil and some distress inks in Salty Ocean and Mowed Lawn then topped on a card.  The critters were stamped first then stamped and colored with Spectrum Noir Markers and fussy cut.  A locket to symbolize their friendship and they are ready to move on down the path!

Come join our March Challenge at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity where the theme is "Let's Party!" but hurry time is marching on (forgive the pun!)  And check out our brand new Facebook Fan Page!  Don't forget the Lost Coast Designs Store and Carmen's Veranda's Store and each of their Facebook pages HERE and HERE,  too!   And one more day to enter our "We're Not in Kansas Anymore" Oz event!  Prizes prizes and more prizes!  That's all for now! Bye!

Lets get this party started !

There is a new Challenge at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity : Lets Party !

Nikki here, sharing a card I made for the challenge, featuring Party Girl from Lost Coast Designs :

Party Girl was stamped in elderberry memento ink, coloured with copics and white gel pen highlights added,  and I fussy cut her.

For the green in the background I used a gelli print background, then inked up the Sunflower Background from Lost Coast Designs in green ink. Without putting the stamp onto a block I rolled sections of it here and there on the background. I also stamped the sunflower onto another piece of white card stock, then punched this into shapes : the circles and scalloped strip you can see. I sponged a little of the elderberry ink onto them and glued them down. Finally adding some lines with an old credit card and ink.

The words were stamped on my typewriter and the card front matted and glued together.

I really like the contrast here of the elderberry and green, and she is such a great image to work with.
And there's plenty more where she came from .... Check out the other inspiration at the Lost Coast Portal to Creativity or the wonderful, varied and unique images at Lost Coast Designs and Carmen's Veranda.

Thanks for stopping by x

Poe Poetry and Journal Stenciling!

Howzit Lost Coasters!
Today I'm sharing a handwritten and rubber stamp illustrated poem by Edgar Allan Poe I created for our first annual Poe Appreciation Day blog hop back in January hosted on our Lost Coast Portal to Creativity blog.  Pop on over to my blog for more info and photos coz here today I'm concentrating on how I began this project which features Carmen's Veranda Edgar Allan Poe stamp and Lost Coast Designs' Lettering/Journaling stencil.

"A Dream Within A Dream"
Glass framed painting presided over by my E. A. Poe Living Dead Doll and his Raven
For this project I used a sheet of heavy weight Canson watercolour paper and started out by randomly applying Black Soot and Tea Dye Distress Ink to the stamp simultaneously to achieve a variegated effect.  I then worked at the Poe image by manipulating the stamped ink and applying more directly from the ink pads with a water brush until I was happy with the result.  TIP:  You can also use Distress Markers for similar results.

Once the painting was dry I added the journaling segments using Lost Coast Designs large journaling stencil.  The stencil is made of the same plastic as store bought stencils and is strong and easy to use.  It measures 6 x 9 inches to fit many journaling books and I used the entire stencil on this project but you can easily just use a portion of it for smaller projects from cards to ATCs, it is a very versatile tool to have in your crafty stash!  I taped the stencil down with removable tape and applied Tea Dye and Black Soot Distress Inks with foam ink applicators.  The photo below shows the stenciled areas when I removed the stencil.  I then applied more Tea Dye to the areas that were blocked out by stencil to reduce the starkness.

I hand wrote the Poe poem with black Micron pen in various nib sizes and applied white acrylic paint to the text with a fine liner paint brush.

If stenciling is not your thing then we do have Journaling Letter Guide rubber stamps available in 3 sizes, these are a must have if you enjoy adding your own text to your projects!

Large 5.5 x 7.5 inches

Card size 5.5 inches high

ATC size 3.5 inches high
